It started when Jeremiah was five and today is his twelfth birthday. His stepmother Carmen has offered him a check for a thousand dollars to cease and desist with his infuriating swear jar. Carmen has grossly miscalculated Jeremiah’s financial acumen. He hasn’t used an actual jar for three years. He keeps the money in a cashbox under his bed, when her reaches five hundred dollars he has his mother deposit it to his account. He keeps the key around his neck with the key for his bike lock. Jeremiah has made seven thousand, eight hundred and nine dollars, and thirty-five cents in seven years. He keeps a meticulous journal of the offenses and the fines collected. He’s made a killing off of Carmen and her friend Adrienne. Adrienne is going through a divorce. Jeremiah’s thoroughness is putting a lot of strain on his dad’s marriage with Carmen, not that Jeremiah cares. It was his dad that suggested the infraction for the F word be fifty dollars. That was years before the whorish vixen seduced his father away from his mother. Jeremiah has suggested she can mitigate the financial liability by simply expanding her vocabulary; she could call him impudent if she knew the word.
