Unprecedented second post. On a Monday no less. But I had to do something to shake off the glum feeling from the Monday Manifestos. Note to self, just because it’s a challenge doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. So here’s what I find fun, writing. It’s difficult and often challenging but definitely also fun.
A friend of mine has found a way to keep the challenge of daily writing fun – keep it short and sweet. I went to the thesefiveminutes book launch on Sunday and joined in on the group dip and write. In case you didn’t bother to click the link, the premise is you “dip” into a book, magazine or song for a sentence or phrase and that is the inspiration for the writing. The writing is unedited and done in five minutes. Here is my first dip:

Midnight’s Children
Salman Rushdie
Typhoid attacked me
It was a stupid name for a cat. I fully acknowledge that. I don’t know, maybe that is what accounts for his surly – more than your usual cat’s – disposition. Anyway this day was different. He literally assaulted my ankles with teeth AND claws as I walked by the couch. Not even in the house five minutes. Maybe I’d been away too long. I wanted to turn around and leave right then but I needed Neosporin. Now I’d have to go into her medicine cabinet. I didn’t want to know, but now I would; who was her latest doctor and what was she on? Maybe I should feed whatever I found to the cat. My ankle stung like a sonuvabitch. I don’t even know where he ran off to when I kicked him away from me.
