I have to lean in real close to hear his little voice.  At first I did a double take because I thought he said years.  He just stared at me patiently as if to say, why do you second guess yourself, you know you heard me the first time.  He never repeats himself.  I wonder if that’s why the others have such a hard time understanding him; they never get a chance to adapt to his unique expressions.  It’s just as well, he gets frustrated with them and says some pretty rough things.  No one thinks I can really understand what he’s saying except Aunt Ruth, but no one takes Aunt Ruth that seriously since she burned her hair off.

I want to tell him that all the things he knows will be forgotten by his first birthday but I can’t remember how to speak the language.

8 min @ home; inspired by a quote from nephew 2
