Decided to drive my Godmother to NYC and help sort the affairs of her deceased sister. We’d hit the road Saturday morn.
-the Canadian Tire salesman who installed my windshield wiper gratis
-free vegetables from someone else’s farm visit
-a run of green lights
-having a car sound enough to make two road trips within three months
-a comfortable bed when I couch surf
-on site washer and dryer
-impromptu kisses from a studious 9 year old
-finding and cashing in a Wag Jag coupon the day before it expires
-free parking in the Annex
-a good mechanic

Drove from TO – NYC
-clean public restrooms stocked with t.p.
-a thermos of hot soup
-a home cooked meal at the end of the drive
-when a wrong turn turns out right
-cheerful gas station attendants when it’s hailing made the driving conditions less daunting
-chocolate when i need it
-living family members who can fill in the gaps of my early years
-street parking on the holiday weekend
-corner liquor stores
-my aunt’s pink crystal glasses – she lets me use them even if we’re eating off paper plates

-finding a lost earring in my toilettries bag
-fresh brewed Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee
-leaving my car where my aunt can see it from the window
-getting a drive to Manhattan that follows the indecipherable Google Maps directions I will use later this week
-the person who let us merge onto the ramp to the Midtown Tunnel
-finding organic eggs in a fridge full of Sunny D
-clean sheets
-licorce tea
-a good story about a childhood memory
-a good belly laugh

-getting a delicious meal at an impromptu visit
-finding the exact size boxes I needed on the street after the liquor store told me their boxes were destroyed when Sandy flooded the basement
-the record collector called me back
-finding time for meditation
-space heaters
-black tea, especially when there’s no good coffee
-soup you can drink out of a To Go cup
-subway buskers or panhandlers who appreciate a smile as payment
-homemade Jamaican Christmas cake
-a wool hat when the wind kicks up
