She is poised perfectly on her two razor sharp sitting bones, mythically long legs crossed twice with ankles collapsed horizontally on the floor. She is a 3D composite of angles and planes, light and shadow. She pinches off tiny crumbs of muffin and feeds them to the King Charles Cavalier terrier at her feet. She feeds equally small pieces to herself. In between bites, she scrolls through emails and Facebook posts. She does not chew but sucks the crumbs behind her front teeth until they dissolve down her throat. The carrot muffin feast takes three quarters of an hour and she savours every bit because it is dinner. Her next meal is the single serving yogurt she eats every morning with a cup of black French Press coffee. It is a perfectly calibrated diet, each calorie’s worth assessed and curated to maintain her ‘fighting weight’. Tomorrow she has a meeting with the editor of Elle magazine.
