Sunny puts the money in the envelope and places it on the silver tray.  Carmen’s dimpled finger’s slide forward and tip the tray’s contents into the open drawer.  She shuts the drawer, clasps her fleshy bejeweled fingers and focuses on Sunny.  Sunny meets her gaze trying not to be disconcerted by how cliché the whole scene is.  Shiny and diaphanous fabrics billow from the ceiling and line the walls, the lights are low and Carmen wears clashing animal prints.  Sunny’s skepticism is dulled by the memory of the smiling hirsute man who greeted her at the door.  Juan Carlos is Carmen’s devoted husband and his attentive presence calms her.  She is sure that the woman who snared such a man can clarify if the boy from the bar last night is “the one” or the one before “the one”.
