Yessssssssssss. The Year of the Snake has arrived and I’m over the (new) moon about it. I love the promise of new possibilities that come with new energies. The snake, although much maligned in Western culture symbolizes many great things beyond temptation and evil. It is a perfect symbol of newness as it refreshes itself shedding old tired skin.
I’m hitting the refresh button on The Middle Notes. Random acts of kindness are awesome but I’m over random acts of writing. The exercise of dipping into published pages for inspiration has become less spontaneous.
There are so many varied sources of inspiration throughout a day but I find myself striving to find some new, virgin source of written inspiration. Meanwhile there was a perfectly great snippet of conversation overheard walking down the sidewalk. I walk on wondering what happens next and instead of exploring it in a quick post, I wait to get to a coffee shop that has books lying around so I can flip to some random line to inspire a timed write. Meanwhile the truly inspired moment has passed. Enough! Basta!
Last year was a great experiment in keeping creative daily. But for this new year, I am shedding the old way and muscling forward with a new improved daily challenge.
I’m still going to share thoughts and observations from The Middle, but on the other days of the week I will allow inspiration to come in whatever form it manifests. The commitment is still 8 minutes but easily flipped on it’s side at some future point if it inspires a more fully realized piece. It might even inspire some Middle Notes. Eight minutes of infinite inspiration.
New Year Monday’s Manifesto: Commit to living a fully creative life. Stay open and receptive. I don’t have to search for inspiration, inspiration is everywhere all around. Keep the creative fires stoked and burning.
Gung Hay Fa’ Choy!
