“There was no foundation, clearly.” Mim exhaled a laser thin stream of blue smoke off to the side. Karin focused on the mole attached to Mim’s upper lip, she knew another indictment on the demise of her marriage was imminent.
She remembered that when she started at Columbia she used to draw on a mole every day. When Mim busted her on it one day, she claimed it was an homage to big sisters. No one noticed that her mole disappeared in junior year.
“That’s your MO doll, you rush in where even fools would fear to tread.” Mim crushed the rest of her filterless Gaulois into the single serving ashtray.
Karin wondered if she could reinvent herself in Paris. She didn’t have to go back to New York.
